Video2Photo Pro

Open The Input Source

In this screen the Media Source can be selected and opened. The Media Source properties can be changed as well.

It is very important that before you go to the next step you set the Video Source Properties (e.g. Camera Settings, Source Filename(s), URL, Picture settings, etc.). One special feature is that pictures on disk can be treated together as a video file, each picture representing a frame. You can select the pictures by selecting a file (as a part of a picture sequence) or by searching on disk or network drives.

Media Source is feeding the application with frames. You can capture frames from a capture device, a frame server, a video file, an internet stream or from digital picture sequences (e.g digital photos) stored on disk.

The Video Capture Devices or Frame Servers Source

When selecting this source you can take snapshots from a Digital Camcorder (e.g. miniDV or Digital8), Analog Camcorder (VHS, Video/Hi8), TV/SAT Tuner, capture card or USB Web Cam. Video2Photo will open the capture driver for the selected source and let you make snapshots from the live video stream. In order to get accurate snapshots on live sources Video2Photo is preserving 15 frames before and 10 after the user action for taking snapshots were taken.

Please Note
When selecting Video Capture Devices or Frame Servers the media type will be considered as Live Source.

Stored Video File or Picture Sequences Source

When selecting this source you can grab single pictures or sequence of pictures from a video file (AVI, WMV, DV, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4/DivX, Video CD, S-Video CD, or other video formats). A special feature of this source is that can also bring pictures in various formats directly from disk and consider them as would be video frames. This feature gives the possibility to make animations, presentations, web galleries and so on, from pictures stored on disk as independent image files. For this reason we can call Video2Photo also as a Photo to Video tool.

There are two kinds of sources in this mode:

  • A Video File

  • A sequence of pictures or numbered pictures

Windows Streaming Media or Live Video Files

When selecting this source, you can take snapshots from a video stream located on the internet, on a network drive or locally on you hard disk. Examples of video streams on internet, are files usually stored with ASF/WMV extension located on a web server or streams located on MMS:// URL’s. Virtually any video file which can be used on Stored Video File or Picture Sequences Source section can be used as Live Video Source. In this case all features corresponding to a Live Source can be used.

The Use Of The Video Mixer Render Check Box (VMR)

The Video Mixer Renderer Check Box (also known as VMR) can be used when certain decoders require such a renderer. If it happens that there are problems taking snapshots from certain video file types you may try to activate this check box before opening the file. For example by checking the VMR check box would help when trying to take snapshots from MPEG-2 files (when certain MPEG-2 decoders) or from WMV files. When enabling VMR it may happen that the video is displayed in a standalone window, other than the Video2Photo window. In this case you may use the application with no problems just ignoring where the video is displayed.
