FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions

I have Video2Photo 1.0 activation info, but they are not working on Video2Photo Professional?

This is normal. Activation info provided for Video2Photo 1.0 (BETAUSER) are valid ONLY for Video2Photo 1.0. Video2Photo Professional requires other kind of activation info. You need to order Video2Photo Professional to get the right activation info. Video2Photo 1.0 was offered for free only for non-commercial use and currently is discontinued.

I have donated for Video2Photo 1.0. I can use Video2Photo Professional?

Yes! Your personalized activation info will work will all future versions of Video2Photo. Just download Video2Photo Professional and use the activation information provided on the time when you did the donation. If you don't have the information anymore, just contact us and we will send it again.

Why Video2Photo is not Freeware anymore?!

The first version, called Video2Photo 1.0 is still free and you can download it from here. After 1 December 2004 the service of sending activation info for Video2Photo 1.0 stopped. You can still use Video2Photo 1.0, as is, with the watermark superimposed over each exported frame or upgrade to Video2Photo Professional. Video2Photo 1.0 will be discontinued and no updates and activation information, will be available anymore. Don't forget. The Video2Photo 1.0 cannot be used for any commercial purposes.

I cannot start Video2Photo?

Video2Photo cannot be started with DirectX versions under 8.0? If you have DirectX version above 8.0 and Video2Photo doesn't start please contact the author.

I have a video file which cannot be opened, what can I do?

This usually happens when no appropriate codec is installed in your operating system. Try first to play the file in Windows Media Player. Most likely Windows Media Player will contact the codec provider and will download and install the codec. Later, try to restart Video2Photo and load the file again. If still doesn't work click the Source Info button on the Open Step and find out the used codec. For example if the Source Info tells that your file is encoded using MPEG-2 codec you will need to install such codec in your system. For additional information follow this link.

When I take a Snapshot I get a black picture?

First try to open the video file in VMR mode (activate the corresponding checkbox in Open Step). If still doesn't work, then most likely your video file doesn't allow frame grabbing therefore is recommended that you re-compress/re-encode the file using different codec.

Certain frames are skipped during rendering. What can I do?

It happens that some asynchronous video source files (e.g. MPEG or AVI files), cannot seek so fast as the Video2Photo requires, when is rendering. Therefore is recommended that, if you get lost frames during rendering process, to increment the Safe Frame Seek time to values above 100 ms and activate the corresponding checkbox on the Go Step.

I want to gain more time when rendering?

If you want to speed up the rendering time you can decrease the number of image processing effects or experimentally decrease or even disable Safe Frame Seek delay (when your video source supports quick seek operations). Anyway don't forget to revert the changes.

There is a bunch of applications which does the same as Video2Photo does, so why you did this?!

Yes, is true... But this functionality is a subset of some big applications (e.g. Adobe Premiere, Ulead Media Studio, ACDSee, Photoshop, etc.) Video2Photo doesn't try to replace completely those applications. Video2Photo tries to give you the same results with less efforts.

Why Video2Photo?

Well, because this is the main purpose of Video2Photo. To extract Still photos from many video sources (camera, video file, etc.). Beside this functionality Video2Photo can be used to create Web Galleries, Macromedia Shockwave slideshows or even to put your stills back in a AVI file.

But Video2Photo Professional can a also load pictures. Why is still called Video2Photo?

Well... In this way was started. Video to Photo. Meanwhile the users asked for this so called "reverse functionality". Now the feature is in, so you can load photos taken from your digital camera or frames of an animation, in Video2Photo an choose any of the output format which Video2Photo exports. This new feature of Video2Photo Professional turns it into a Photo2Photo or Photo2Video tool.

I'm a developer. Can I write plug-ins for Video2Photo?

Of course! If you have basic knowledge of building DLL's and image processing experience contact us for details.

Can be Video2Photo used with AVISynth?

Yes. Video2Photo can load AVISynth scripts on "The Video Capture Devices or Frame Servers Source". The AVISynth scripts are executed and you can take snapshots of the resulting video.

Why using AVISynth?

AviSynth is a very very powerful tool for video post-production. It provides almost unlimited ways of editing and processing videos. AviSynth works as a frame server, providing instant and very fast editing without the need for temporary files. A nice feature of AVISynth is that has very powerful deinterlace filters. Therefore, by using AVISynth you can get snapshots without so called "interlacing artifacts".
