Removing Compression Artifacts

Snapshots taken from video files may contain a lot of compression artifacts, CCD noise or other kind of noise. It is a challenging task for a frame grabber to make those snapshots better for web and/or print.

Video2Photo has some filters which can help reducing such artifacts. In our example we will take an MPEG sample recorded from TV and optimized for 56Kbps bandwidth. Because of the MPEG-1  compression, every frame contains compression artifacts which are not so disturbing while the video is running, but are becoming obvious on a still picture.

By alternating Antialias and Sharpen Filter multiple times and finally applying a Remove Noise filter, you can reduce the compression artifacts of a noisy snapshot, like in the following example:

Correcting Low-Light Camera Shots

When taking snapshots with cameras, in low-light conditions, the picture may become very dark and noisy. By using Frame Averaging Feature you can remove a lot of the noise produced by camera's sensor and improve the luminosity of the still.

Correcting Scanned Pictures

Scanned pictures can contain a lot of random noise. To remove such noise you can use "Remove Noise" filter. The results can be observed in the following example:
